Wiring
Used e-bike wiring from private sellers across the UK, new and second-hand. Everything from cables to connectors, for upgrading, repairing or customising a build. Sound wiring is what keeps the rest of the system running properly.
What wiring parts will I need?
Most jobs come down to two things: the cable itself and the connectors on each end. Extension leads, replacement looms and splitters cover the majority of repairs and upgrades, and it is usually the connector — not the cable — that determines whether a part will work on your bike.
How do I know a connector will fit?
Connector types vary between manufacturers and even between model years, so match the connector on the part you are buying to the one on your bike rather than assuming a standard. Photographs of both ends are the most useful thing a seller can provide. If you are wiring a bike from scratch, conversion kits come with a matched loom, which avoids the problem entirely.
What should I check buying used?
Look for nicks or chafing in the outer sheath, especially where the cable passes through the frame or near the headtube, and check the connector pins are straight and free of corrosion or green residue. Cable that has been cut and rejoined is worth avoiding unless the join is properly soldered and sealed. Ask whether the wiring was removed from a working bike.
Which faults are actually a wiring problem?
Intermittent cut-outs, a display that flickers or drops out, and assistance that comes and going over bumps usually point at a connector or a damaged cable rather than the motor or battery. Before replacing anything expensive, unplug and inspect each connection along the run.
Should I do the work myself?
Swapping a plug-and-play loom or extension is straightforward and needs no more than cable ties and patience. Cutting into the harness, splicing wires or working near the battery terminals is a different job — if you are not confident, get it done properly, and check your charger and connections afterwards to make sure nothing has been left loose.
